Key Purpose:
The Artisan Technician is responsible for providing specialized skills and knowledge to the shift team, supporting operations, maintenance, and resolving technical problems. The role involves mechanical and electrical fault finding, maintenance activities, and ensuring optimal plant performance.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Operational Support
- Specialist Support: Provide expert assistance to shift-based teams during operations, including standby and day shift support.
- Problem Solving: Act as a functional expert in problem-solving and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical faults.
- Guidance: Advise and guide teams on how to manage and respond to equipment failures effectively.
- Coaching: Transfer knowledge through coaching, mentoring, and machine operation training to the shift-based teams.
- Optimization Trials: Participate as an expert in regional and central plant optimization trials, contributing to continuous improvement efforts.
2. Planned Maintenance
- Scheduled Tasks: Perform maintenance tasks as per the planned schedule issued by the planner. Ensure all activities are completed during the maintenance window.
- Feedback: Provide updates to the maintenance controller if any scheduled tasks cannot be completed, suggesting rescheduling or prioritization of work.
- Teamwork: Support fellow team members during maintenance activities to ensure smooth operations.
- Administration: Complete required administration, including SAP tasks, in support of planned maintenance.
- Post-Mortems: Participate in maintenance post-mortems to share insights, identify problems, and suggest improvements based on completed activities.
3. Routine Maintenance
- Maintenance Schedule: Conduct routine cleaning, lubrication, and inspections according to the maintenance schedule.
- Problem Resolution: Address issues discovered during routine maintenance using appropriate problem-solving techniques.
- Condition Monitoring: Perform condition monitoring tasks assigned to the Technician according to the Condition Monitoring (CM) schedule.
- Resource Allocation: Call additional resources when necessary to resolve complex maintenance issues.
4. Running Repairs
- On-Call Repairs: Assist with running repairs on plant equipment when needed. Support Shift Artisans with repairs or take the lead on addressing issues.
- Assess & Action: Analyze repair issues to determine the appropriate course of action and, if necessary, seek specialist assistance (e.g., from Instrument Technicians or Contractors).
- Major Repairs: Escalate significant repair work (such as motor rewiring) to the engineering workshop.
- Verification: Ensure that repairs have effectively addressed the problem and perform follow-up actions if needed.
- Administration: Complete necessary administrative tasks related to running repairs, including SAP documentation.
- Communication: Inform the Maintenance Planner if repairs cannot be performed, ensuring they are planned for the next maintenance window.
