Job Description:

Midas is seeking a dedicated and reliable Cashier to join our branch in Outeniqua. The Cashier will play a crucial role in ensuring smooth financial transactions and maintaining accurate records of all monetary exchanges at our branch. This role involves receiving payments, reconciling cash, scanning products, and ensuring accurate pricing, all while delivering excellent customer service.

Specific Role Responsibilities:

Key Performance Indicators include, but are not limited to:

  1. Cash Receipting:

    • Payment Processing: Receive payments from customers for services rendered by effectively communicating with them and addressing specific payment or sale inquiries. Provide information on product prices as needed.
    • Cash Handling: Collect and count payments tendered by verifying the total amount due and, if necessary, requesting identification. Ensure proper recording and processing of cheque payments.
    • Receipt Issuance: Issue receipts that accurately reflect the amount tendered, and confirm receipt recording with the customer to ensure transparency and accuracy.
    • Customer Service: Attend to customer inquiries and payment transactions efficiently, adhering to company guidelines to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
  2. Cash Reconciliation:

    • Cash Management: Reconcile cash received against receipts issued by segregating denominations and following a control counting sequence. Add amounts and verify cash totals against receipts.
    • Cheque Deposits: Capture details of overnight cheque deposits, print receipts for payments tendered, and record transactional details on the cheque before submitting it for further processing.
    • Reporting: Verify cash receipts schedules and reports against cash and cheque totals. Address and rectify any discrepancies in recordings or counts before forwarding for depositing.
  3. Documentation/Recordkeeping:

    • Transaction Records: Maintain thorough documentation and records of all transactions. This includes attaching duplicate receipts and deposit slips to schedules and filing them in chronological order.
    • Information Retrieval: Access and retrieve information and records as needed to facilitate the resolution of specific customer inquiries and internal audits.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Educational Requirements: Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience: 2-5 years of cashier experience is essential. Proven ability to handle all counter cash operations effectively.
  • Technical Skills: Basic proficiency in MS Excel to perform general administrative functions at the branch.

  • Efficiency and Accuracy: Must be efficient, accurate, and attentive to detail to ensure smooth financial operations and error-free transactions.
  • Numeracy and Literacy: Strong numeracy and literacy skills are required for managing cash and handling documentation.
