Job Overview:
UD Trucks, a globally recognized leader in commercial automotive technology, is seeking a skilled and dedicated Picker Packer to join its dynamic logistics team. The Picker Packer will be responsible for handling critical logistics operations such as picking, packing, and feeding production lines with the required materials. Reporting directly to the Logistics Team Leader, this role plays a pivotal part in ensuring that operations run smoothly and efficiently within the department. The successful candidate will handle a range of duties, including material handling, maintaining safety standards, and ensuring that all processes are executed according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This role requires someone who is detail-oriented, highly organized, and committed to maintaining a clean and safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Execute all tasks strictly according to the company's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to maintain efficiency and safety in operations.
  • Perform quick Kaizen’s, which are rapid, small-scale improvements aimed at increasing productivity and efficiency.
  • Carry out various material handling activities, including manual lifting, packaging, taping, labeling, and sorting to ensure that the correct products are processed for delivery.
  • Operate forklifts and move materials efficiently using the company’s bin system to support line feeding and other logistics operations.
  • Inspect and report any defective materials or shortages to the Team Leader, ensuring that all items meet the required standards.
  • Ensure that the work area and equipment are always kept in a clean, safe, and organized condition to prevent any potential hazards or delays in operations.
  • Comply with all company safety regulations and policies to maintain a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Follow and carry out specific instructions from the Team Leader regarding daily tasks, ensuring that deadlines are met and standards maintained.
  • Break down emballages (packaging) and pallets for recycling purposes, contributing to the company’s sustainability efforts.
  • Perform regular inspections of machinery and equipment to determine the need for repairs, ensuring that all tools are functioning safely and efficiently.
  • Unload materials and merchandise from incoming vehicles, stacking them in assigned places for easy access and smooth workflow in the logistics department.

Experience Requirements:

  • Previous exposure to working in an assembly plant or a similar logistics environment is highly advantageous.

Job Requirements:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to facilitate effective interaction with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, ensuring smooth collaboration within the logistics team.
  • Basic mathematical skills, essential for accurate counting, measuring, and tracking of materials.
  • Strong visualization and observation skills to ensure accuracy in the picking and packing process.
  • Experience in handling tools and machinery, with the ability to inspect and maintain equipment as required.
  • A valid forklift license is essential for this role, as the position requires frequent forklift operation.
  • Basic computer literacy, especially with logistics software, will be considered a significant advantage.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent qualification with a strong foundation in Mathematics.
  • Completion of a Component Manufacturing or Logistics Learnership, or any other relevant qualification related to the automotive or logistics industry.
