Duties & Responsibilities:
- Customer Interaction: The cashier will be the first point of contact for customers, greeting them with a smile, ensuring they feel valued, and addressing their questions and concerns promptly.
- Cash Handling: Counting money in the cash drawers at the beginning of each shift to ensure there is enough change and that amounts are accurate. The cashier will also issue receipts, return the correct change, and account for any discrepancies, as any shortfalls will be handled according to company agreements.
- Tills & Counter Maintenance: The cashier must ensure that the tills are fully operational, stocked with sufficient paper and ribbon for receipts, and that the counter around the tills is clean and presentable.
- Stock Control & Restocking: Ensuring the stock in the resale area is correctly displayed and that shelves and fridges are restocked daily.
- Daily Cash-Ups & Reporting: Completing accurate daily cash-ups and related paperwork, adhering to company standards, and preparing a daily sales analysis. At the end of each shift, the cashier must notify the Admin Assistant or Admin Manager for end-of-shift cash-ups.
- General Assistance: When the store is quiet, the cashier should assist with cleaning or support other store operations as needed, ensuring smooth coordination between the front and back-of-house areas.
Required Skills & Competencies:
- Attention to Detail: The role requires accuracy in handling cash, completing paperwork, and resolving discrepancies.
- Clerical Skills: Strong organizational and clerical abilities, especially in managing cash registers and completing administrative tasks.
- Operational Skills: Must have excellent operational skills with all types of point-of-sale tills and be capable of controlling cash effectively.
- Personal Attributes: Honest, responsible, well-organized, friendly, and helpful with a customer-first approach. Confidence in handling money is essential, as is the ability to work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications:
- National Senior Certificate (matric) is required.
