Job Summary:
Mega Bus - Kuruman is seeking a Chargehand to supervise and manage a team of artisans who are responsible for the maintenance, installation, and repairs of plant equipment. The Chargehand will play a key role in minimizing production downtime by scheduling and inspecting maintenance activities. The candidate may also be required to work across multiple trades, including welding, fitting, boilermaking, and electrical/mechanical work.
Minimum Requirements:
- Education:
- Grade 12 / National Certificate
- Trade test qualification
- Skills:
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure, during after-hours, and shifts
- Ability to adhere to predetermined standards
- Leadership skills to manage and motivate a team
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise, manage, and motivate a team of workshop staff, ensuring efficient operations
- Oversee the fleet service and maintenance program, ensuring timely maintenance as per company procedures
- Manage workshop stock in collaboration with the storeman, ensuring appropriate inventory levels
- Conduct regular health, safety, and environmental (HSE) meetings and lead toolbox talk discussions with the workshop team
- Assist the Workshop Manager with daily duties, including acting in the manager's absence as required
- Ensure that deadlines are met and be willing to perform ad hoc tasks as necessary
This position is ideal for someone who is skilled in multiple trades, thrives under pressure, and is capable of supervising a team to ensure that production and safety standards are consistently met. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the workshop, maintaining operational efficiency and safety compliance.
