Job Purpose:
South African Airways (SAA) is seeking candidates for the position of First Officer. The role involves taking necessary measures for the safety of flights, both on the ground and in-flight. The First Officer will serve as either a Second-In-Command Pilot (P2) or Cruise Relief Pilot (P3).
Principal Accountabilities:
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols during flights.
- Perform all pilot duties required by SAA, including assisting in operations both on the ground and in-flight.
- Ensure all documentation is submitted, including:
- Matric results transcript
- Aviation training records
- Summary of aircraft types flown and hours flown
- Certified copies of Matric Certificate, South African ID/Passport, academic transcripts, Pilot License, Class 1 Medical Certificate, and Pilot Logbook (last 3 pages).
- CV
Preference will be given to female applicants as part of SAA’s Pilot Employment Equity Plan.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Matric Certificate/Grade 12 results, N3 or relevant tertiary qualifications (SAQA accredited).
- Required subjects: Mathematics or Statistics 101 and English (minimum D symbol on higher grade or C symbol on standard grade).
- One of the following: Physical Science or Computer Science (minimum D symbol on higher grade or C symbol on standard grade).
- Licenses:
- Valid South African Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) or Commercial Pilot License (CPL) with all ground subjects for ATPL completed (Frozen ATPL).
- A valid ATPL must be obtained within 4 years from the date of employment.
- Valid Class 1 medical certificate.
- Flying Hours: Minimum of 1,500 flying hours, including 200 hours on multi-engine aircraft.
- Other Requirements:
- South African citizen with a valid passport.
- Candidates will undergo pre-employment assessments, including criminal, credit, and reference checks, and simulator/written/psychometric tests.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Expertise in applying safety standards and operating practices.
- Knowledge of national and international aviation regulations (CAA, ICAO, IATA, FAA, EASA).
- Familiarity with international travel regulations and customs.
- Excellent verbal and written business communication skills.
