Main Purpose
The General Worker will assist in all areas of glass processing to ensure that production and quality targets are met within the plant.
Principal Responsibilities
- Accurately read and measure incoming glass with a tape measure.
- Handle and inspect all incoming glass for any defects such as irregular breaks, scratches, or uneven edges.
- Follow process instructions according to job cards and drawings.
- Receive instructions from machine operators and fill out documentation (both hard copies and electronically).
- Adhere to all applicable safety requirements, reporting any unsafe practices or conditions immediately.
- Continuously check the quality of glass and report any defects to the operator.
- Work with the operator to ensure correct job cards and labeling of glass.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Scan and confirm each glass piece before sending it to the next station, and scrap rejected glass to replace it.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Keep daily production records, including quantity, dimensions, square meters, and material type.
- Handle chemicals within safety guidelines and ensure proper labeling of materials.
- Load, strap, offload, and move glass around the plant using a pallet jack.
- Assist in loading and offloading materials from pallets and trucks when required.
- Maintain cleanliness of work areas, machines, and equipment.
- Sign off on job cards after completing tasks.
- Assist in other areas of production as needed based on requirements.
Educational Background
- Matric (Grade 12)
Experience
- 1 year of experience in glass processing.
- SAP knowledge is an advantage.
Skills
- Strong sense of urgency.
- Analytical and numerical skills.
- Computer literacy.
- Ability to read and write.
- Proficiency in using precision measuring equipment.
