Purpose of the Position:
The Peer Educator will conduct outreach activities in the sex worker (SW) community by providing health information, mobilising SWs to the mobile unit, and ensuring linkage to care.
Minimum Requirements:
- Education: Grade 10
- Experience: 1–3 years’ experience in the sex industry or as a peer educator
- Fluent in English and African languages
- Clear criminal record
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify SW hotspots for mobilisation
- Educate sex workers on risk reduction and prevention interventions
- Conduct male and female condom demonstrations
- Distribute condoms and lubricant, keeping accurate records
- Assist with follow-ups of referrals (HIV, TB, STIs, etc.)
- Refer sex workers to mobile health services and other psychosocial support (e.g., paralegal, substance abuse)
- Provide accurate health information using diverse methods
- Assist in developing health promotion materials
- Maintain relationships with stakeholders, such as health managers and indoor managers
- Track outreach activities and compile weekly reports
- Support sex workers emotionally and manage crises when needed
