Position Overview:

The Butchery Operator will manage resources to ensure compliance with standards and regulations, achieving targets and deadlines. The role requires a team-oriented individual with excellent customer service skills and the ability to work in a cold environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate all butchery equipment, including the bandsaw.
  • Handle customer service professionally.
  • Manufacture and cut various meat products (e.g., loin chops, roasts) with accuracy.
  • Maintain and monitor stock control, merchandising, and product promotions.
  • Process and de-bone meat cuts, produce sausages, and other products.
  • Follow hygiene and cleanliness standards for all butchery equipment and utensils.
  • Check and maintain the cold chain and monitor temperatures.
  • Train staff on new products and procedures.
  • Ensure minimal wastage, shrinkage, or damages.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education: Grade 12.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Knowledge of butchery equipment operation.
    • Ability to cut and process meat products (skill will be tested).
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to work in a cold environment.
    • Physically capable of lifting meat carcasses and containers.
    • Compliance with the medical criteria per the OHS Act for butchery roles.
  • Personal Competencies:
    • Team player with strong communication skills.
    • Sense of urgency and passion for the product.
    • Good numeracy skills (screening assessment required).
    • Commitment to personal growth and development.
