Job Description

The Cashier will be responsible for accurately handling all Point of Sale (POS) transactions, ensuring customer satisfaction, and maintaining proper documentation. This includes ensuring that no goods or stock pass through the POS without being paid for.

Key Responsibilities

Cash Handling

  • Ensure that all cash (including floats and petty cash) is balanced (no shortages or overages).
  • Correctly identify and capture goods on the Point of Sale Terminal.
  • Capture the correct payment type received from customers on the POS Terminal.
  • Ensure you have sufficient change at all times.
  • Perform accurate pick-ups within set parameters.
  • Complete accurate cash-ups at the end of your shift.
  • Drop daily takings into the Drop Safe or vault.
  • Process transactions related to other stores' money, deliveries, and quotes accurately.

Administration

  • Sign, compile, and file all related documentation related to the cashier's function.

Ready for Business

  • Adhere to Ready for Business and Beyond My Control standards as per the company's policies.

Customer Service

  • Provide fast, friendly, and efficient service to customers when checking in and out their goods.
  • Direct customers to the relevant person for further assistance.
  • Comply with the company’s dress code.

Safety (OHSA) Requirements

  • Ensure customer and staff safety within the area of responsibility.
  • Report any discrepancies to the Store Manager.

Security Awareness

  • Adhere to system password control at the till point.
  • Ensure cash is safely kept and transported to the cash office following company requirements.

  • Achieve set targets and complete tasks accurately and to the required standard.
  • Deliver best practice quality/standards as established in the company.
  • Follow through on commitments.

  • Identify problems and seek the root cause.
  • Resolve problems and escalate issues accordingly using relevant information available.

  • Make decisions within the framework of company policies and timelines.
  • Implement decisions in line with agreed processes and policies.

  • Plan within the framework of operational/department policies and procedures.

Handling Pressure

  • Manage pressure well, consistently controlling responses irrespective of time/workload pressures.

  • Demonstrate courtesy and effectiveness when communicating in day-to-day interactions.
  • Ensure relevant information is shared with appropriate stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Education: Grade 12 or a minimum of 1 year of work-related experience.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to communicate in English and the dominant language spoken in the area.
    • Basic calculation skills.
    • Strong administration skills.
    • Ability to perform well under pressure.
    • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
