Job Description

RCL Foods is seeking a driven, highly energetic Despatch Clerk within the baking business unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate stock and crate movement from production to the dispatching of trucks and return logistics. The role includes completing paperwork and other transactional duties efficiently and accurately. The position will be based in Empangeni and reports to the Depot Manager.


Duties & Responsibilities

Stock Management:

  • Verify stock handover from the previous shift.
  • Ensure cages are locked and that stock pulled from production is signed for by the dispatch clerk and production supervisor.
  • Load stock according to company safety standards and prevent stock damage.
  • On vehicle return, count returns and issue credit notes when the Returns Clerk is not present.
  • Move good stock returns to dispatch cages and damaged returns to the damage container.
  • Conduct cycle counts of stock in dispatch and provide explanations if stock does not balance.
  • Ensure accurate receipting and dispatching of confectionery according to SOP.

Crate Control:

  • Ensure integrity of crate movement within JDE.
  • Conduct a daily crate count of all Sunshine crates on company premises.
  • Report crate discrepancies to the dispatch supervisor.
  • On vehicle return, count crates and issue a crate slip to the driver.

Transactional Duties:

  • Print accumulative sales reports and loading sheets.
  • Provide instructions to loaders on stock to pull, including quantity and type.
  • Process sales of bread, including damages, and do a cash-up on cash sales.
  • Ensure correct invoices for all drivers and customers are printed and handed over.
  • Transfer stock accurately to the driver’s route location and record special requests in the request book.
  • Complete a handover sheet for the next shift and inform the next shift clerk of any important information.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • Grade 12 with a mathematics pass rate above 60%.

Skills:

  • Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate in English.
  • Good numeracy skills.
  • Proficiency in computer literacy, especially with Excel and email.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience in a dispatch department.
  • FMCG experience is advantageous.
  • Experience with JDE is a plus.
