Kumba Iron Ore is seeking a Dispatcher to coordinate and monitor production operations in mining, ensuring optimal performance during shifts.
Kumba Iron Ore is a leading supplier of high-grade iron ore, essential for steel production worldwide. Our operations span exploration, mining, processing, blending, shipping, and marketing, with mining sites in the Northern Cape and administrative hubs in Gauteng and Saldanha Bay.
Job Description
As a Dispatcher, your role will include:
- Ensuring adherence to health and safety standards.
- Monitoring equipment utilisation and maintenance processes to ensure operational availability.
- Managing in-shift mining production activities to optimise performance.
- Overseeing shift handovers to minimise inefficiencies.
- Ensuring data accuracy and integrity via operator inputs and automatic event logging systems.
- Managing secondary equipment to support production activities.
- Monitoring loading accuracy using HPGPS systems and other tools.
- Assigning and defining equipment priorities aligned with production schedules.
- Setting optimisation parameters for material blending, truck queueing, and shovel hanging.
- Generating and distributing shift reports.
Systems Utilised:
- HPGPS, MineWare Guided Spotting, MineCare, MMS, and FMS systems.
- CAD and GIS systems for mapping and data analysis.
This role is part of the Mining (MIN) team at Band 7 and reports to the MIOC Coordinator.
Qualifications and Experience
Educational Requirements:
- Grade 12 Certificate / N3 Technical Qualification
- NQF5 Higher National Qualification (e.g., Computer Science, System Support, Mining Management)
- Relevant Fleet Management System Certificate (advantageous)
- MS Office Suite Certification
- SA Driver’s Licence (Code B)
Experience:
- 3-5 years of mining production experience.
- Familiarity with equipment capabilities and limitations.
- Understanding of the mining lifecycle and its business impact.
- Experience with CAD systems, GPS tracking, and GIS software.
- Knowledge of fleet management, MMS, and safety management software.
