Position: Handyman – Free State & Northern Cape
Reporting To: Building/OHS Supervisor

Main Purpose of the Position:

The Handyman will assist the Building/OHS Supervisor in maintaining and repairing facilities to ensure the optimal effectiveness of building systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. General Building Maintenance:

  • Perform minor building repairs and maintenance.
  • Conduct general building repairs, including plastering, bricklaying, and spalling repairs.
  • Paint passages and offices.
  • Assist with installing and removing door locks.
  • Mount and remove notice boards.
  • Move furniture between floors.
  • Open drains and clean gutters as needed.
  • Conduct quarterly building and furniture inspections.
  • Assist with asset verification when required.
  • Maintain gardens and general areas around the SABC building.
  • Transfer and store equipment and furniture safely.
  • Assist in labelling and marking corporate assets.
  • Dispatch stationery and other requested items.

2. General Administrative Functions:

  • Plan and organize work to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain an orderly and efficient work environment.
  • Assess project requirements, including skills and materials, to stay within budget.
  • Ensure quality standards are consistently met.

3. Governance, Risk, and Compliance:

  • Follow workplace safety standards and procedures.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and ensure neatness in designated areas.

Minimum Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 (Matric)

Experience:

  • At least 1 year of experience in maintenance systems for high-rise buildings.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Familiarity with fire protection reticulation equipment.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Understanding of required tools of the trade.
  • Willingness to work in various environments with different disciplines.
  • Preparedness to work overtime or odd shifts when required.
