Purpose of the Role

The Peer Educator will focus on mobilization, pre-vulnerability screening, and case management for AGYW to enhance HIV prevention efforts. This includes ensuring AGYW initiated on PrEP remain engaged in care.


Minimum Requirements

  • Educational Qualification:
    • Grade 12.
  • Age:
    • Between 18–29 years.
  • Training:
    • Accredited 10-day HIV counselling certificate.
    • Certification for finger-prick testing.
  • Experience:
    • At least 1 year of related experience or training.
  • Languages:
    • Proficiency in English and isiXhosa.
  • Other:
    • Residing within the allocated ward.
    • A driver’s license and own transport (advantageous).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct mapping of hotspots with the Structural Programme Coordinator to mobilize AGYW for HIV prevention.
  • Engage with community-based organizations, youth structures, and health workers to support mobilization.
  • Conduct pre-screening to identify vulnerable AGYW and provide HIV education and prevention services.
  • Implement case management strategies to ensure adherence to PrEP and other care protocols.
  • Facilitate referrals to external agencies and assist in assessing youth needs for prevention, care, and treatment.
  • Communicate with beneficiaries in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Address operational challenges and report to the Structural Programme Coordinator.
  • Participate in staff development through training and workshops.
  • Submit weekly and monthly reports on mobilization and case management.
