Purpose of the Job

The Security Supervisor is responsible for assessing security risks, ensuring compliance with physical security protocols, and overseeing the guarding, patrolling, and access control functions of DBSA. The role also includes VIP protection, emergency management, and supervision of security personnel.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • PSiRA A Grade Security Qualification
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in security supervision
  • Knowledge of Public Office Security Policy Framework
  • EMS/DMS/BCM experience
  • Strong understanding of security practices, methodologies, and legislative requirements
  • Experience in physical security operations, control centre logistics, and incident management

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Security-related diploma or certification
  • Experience with compliance frameworks (PSiRA, OHS Act, etc.)
  • Familiarity with security system operations (CCTV, access control, incident reporting software)
  • Experience in drafting reports, developing security procedures, and managing budgets
  • Valid driver’s license (preferred)
  • Ability to work day and night shifts

Key Responsibilities

1. Physical Security Operations

  • Conduct security risk assessments and business impact analyses.
  • Supervise physical guarding, patrolling, and access control.
  • Monitor and analyse security threats, escalating issues as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory security standards.
  • Oversee concierge services and VIP protection.
  • Train staff on emergency and security protocols.

2. Security Intelligence & Data Management

  • Operate and maintain the security control centre.
  • Use intelligence, information, and data analytics to mitigate risks.
  • Configure and update security systems (CCTV, access management, patrol tools).

3. Security Breaches & Investigations

  • Investigate security breaches, incidents, and policy violations.
  • Report security threats and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain incident logs and compile investigation reports.

4. Emergency Management & Disaster Recovery

  • Serve as a 24/7/365 emergency contact.
  • Lead incident response and business continuity planning.
  • Ensure staff training and certification renewal in emergency procedures.

5. Statutory Compliance

  • Ensure DBSA meets PSiRA, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Keep security policies updated and ensure compliance within the security team.

6. Supervision & Team Leadership

  • Oversee security personnel and daily operations.
  • Ensure adequate security coverage and resource allocation.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and training programs.
  • Maintain a Security Operations Manual for staff reference.

  1. Incident Reporting: Response time and accuracy in reporting security incidents.
  2. Access Control: Number of unauthorized access attempts successfully prevented.
  3. Customer Satisfaction: Feedback from staff, clients, and VIP guests.
