About the Role

Fedics is seeking a Ward Hostess to work individually in patient wards, serving meals, snacks, and beverages in a busy and fast-paced healthcare environment.


Key Responsibilities

Patient Service

  • Ensure patients have ice water available at all times.
  • Serve breakfast, lunch, supper, tea/coffee, and alternative snacks to patients.
  • Accurately fill and submit patient menu cards promptly.
  • Maintain and update diet lists before meals, ensuring immediate attention to any diet alterations.

Meal Management

  • Transport trolleys with meals from the kitchen to wards and return them after serving.
  • Ensure trays are complete before placing them on trolleys and in front of patients.
  • Remove trays immediately after patients have eaten and wash cutlery after every meal.
  • Serve cutlery in bags and maintain strict control over its usage and storage.

Ward Maintenance

  • Keep the ward kitchen clean and tidy at all times.
  • Ensure no trays are left in the ward kitchen after meals; return them promptly to the main kitchen.

Private Patient Services

  • Provide additional services to private patients, including:
    • Delivering a daily newspaper of their choice.
    • Refreshments for direct family visitors.
    • Evening tea or coffee with a Healthwise chocolate.
    • A la carte meal options.

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills at all levels.
  • Knowledge of Fedics hygiene and quality standards.
  • Well-presented, neat, and professional.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Flexible with working hours, including weekends and public holidays.

Qualifications

  • Matric (Grade 12).
  • Previous experience in a hospital environment is advantageous.
