We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Diesel Technician to join our team in Pinetown. In this role, you’ll work closely with the Workshop Foreman to deliver high-quality repair and maintenance services on diesel vehicles, mentor apprentices, and uphold our commitment to customer satisfaction and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities
- Support the Workshop Foreman constructively, fostering strong internal department relationships.
- Perform tasks to an exemplary standard and manage workload efficiently.
- Accurately record all hours worked and sold, ensuring lubricants, parts, and consumables are documented on job cards.
- Follow management-directed systems and processes for job card completion, adapting to updates as required.
- Build positive relationships with parts staff to ensure smooth operations.
- Meet FAW SA’s minimum standards for all tasks performed.
- Participate in relevant training programs and share newfound knowledge with colleagues.
- Attend breakdowns courteously, wearing correct PPE, and ensuring the service vehicle is clean and presentable.
- Understand job requirements thoroughly to address breakdowns effectively.
- Obey road rules (traffic fines will be the responsibility of the offender).
- Foster strong working relationships with colleagues, peers, and apprentices, mentoring learners to promote productivity and skills transfer.
- Set a positive example in punctuality and professionalism.
- Diagnose warranty claims accurately, following the 3 C’s: Complaint, Cause, and Correction.
- Take ownership of assigned apprentices, ensuring effective skills transfer and diligent completion of apprenticeship documentation (e.g., logbooks).
- Adhere to all Health and Safety regulations and encourage team compliance.
- Properly use tools, special tools, and company assets, maintaining a neat and tidy workplace.
- Promote team wellness, confidence, and job understanding.
- Manage hours worked, including overtime, in line with the Labour Relations Act, in coordination with the Foreman.
- Provide clear, concise, and relevant feedback to the Workshop Manager to keep customers informed.
- Uphold the company’s reputation as a trustworthy and reliable brand, embodying the “customer is king” philosophy.
Requirements
- Matric (Grade 12).
- Completed Diesel Trade Test.
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a similar role.
- Valid Code 14 driver’s license with PDP (Public Driver’s Permit).
- Strong technical expertise and understanding of diesel vehicle systems.
