Job Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies in Krugersdorp is offering an opportunity for learners to complete the Basic Pharmacist Assistant Course. The role aims to provide on-the-job training in the pharmaceutical environment. Successful candidates will be employed on a fixed-term contract until they are registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Grade 12 (Matric) with:
- Pure Mathematics (50%)
- Life Science and/or Physical Science (50%)
- Overall average of 50%
- Proficiency test: Must pass the Dis-Chem proficiency test for SAPC registration eligibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Under Pharmacist Supervision:
- Sell Schedule 1 medicines.
- Assist with the preparation of non-sterile medicines.
- Unpack, merchandise stock, and clean dispensary/OTC shelves.
- Pharmaceutical Tasks:
- Learn to interpret prescriptions accurately.
- Pick, pack, label, and check medication.
- Ensure stock control and expiry date management (Schedule 1–5 medicines).
- Assist with chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication authorizations.
- Follow up on prescriptions and assist in call centre services.
- General Administration:
- Assist with dispensary stock receiving.
- Promote health awareness and provide customer support.
Key Competencies
Essential:
- Proficiency in English & a second language.
- Strong time management, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
- Customer service skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Basic computer literacy & numerical skills.
Advantageous:
- Retail/FMCG or Dis-Chem front shop experience.
- Knowledge of Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting.
Special Conditions of Employment
- Must pass the Dis-Chem proficiency test.
- South African citizen.
- Clear criminal and credit record (MIE verification).
