We’re seeking 2 Fitter & Turner Apprentices to join our Baking Division in Krugersdorp. This role reports to the Maintenance Foreman and focuses on ensuring Plant Maintenance is done effectively to minimize downtime.


Training Overview

  • Institutionalized training at the Industrial Training Centre (ITC) for approximately 20 weeks.

  • Work exposure and training across different sections of the factory during operations and off-crop periods (about 29 weeks).

  • Annual Mini Trade Tests (phase tests) to assess progress — successful completion leads to continued participation in the program.

  • Final Trade Test results in a nationally recognized qualification.


Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • Grade 12

  • N3 qualification (minimum); N4 to N6 preferred.

Required N3 subjects:

  • Mathematics

  • Engineering Science

  • Industrial Electronics

  • Electrical Trade Theory / Electrical Technology / Electrotechnology

  • Fitting and Machining / Mechanical Technology / Mechanotechnology

Other Requirements:

  • Proof of successful completion of a formal Institutionalized Training Programme.

  • Knowledge of Safety, Health, and Environmental Legislation applicable to maintenance work.

  • Skills to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain structural components of machinery.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid Code EB/Code 8 Driver’s License

  • Computer literacy (MS Office Suite)

  • Willingness to work shifts, standby duties, callouts, and overtime

  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct equipment inspections to proactively prevent breakdowns and ensure quality standards.

  • Adhere to the maintenance execution process, ensuring work orders are complete and accurate.

  • Inspect drives, motors, belts, bearings, and filters, following maintenance checklists.

  • Repair equipment failures to restore functionality.

  • Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other machinery parts.
