An exciting opportunity is available for an Import Logistics Controller at SPITZ in Bryanston, Johannesburg. This role ensures the smooth, efficient, and compliant handling of import processes — from booking shipments to managing customs clearance and tracking deliveries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Booking Shipments:

    • Approve bookings with shipping agents based on cost-effectiveness and reliability.

    • Understand customs regulations, Incoterms 2020, and shipping terms.

    • Request freight estimates, analyze costs, and select the best FCL/LCL or air freight option.

    • Consolidate shipments from the same port to reduce costs.

  • Foreign Vendor Payments:

    • Arrange Letters of Credit (LC) and manage vendor payments, including deposits and balance payments.

  • Costing and Stock Control:

    • Verify supplier invoices and reconcile with SAP purchase orders.

    • Execute costing on SAP (Zimp3), including freight, wharfage, VAT, and duty charges.

    • Notify relevant teams about short deliveries and support insurance claims.

  • Tracking Orders:

    • Monitor shipment status daily, resolve delays with freight agents, and update buyers.

  • Customs Clearance:

    • Ensure correct tariff headings and duty rates on customs documents.

    • Complete clearing instructions promptly to avoid storage fees.

  • Freight Forwarder Invoices:

    • Verify freight charges against rate agreements and forward invoices for payment.

  • Reporting and Filing:

    • Generate monthly Goods in Transit reports and weekly Order Control updates.

    • Maintain organized, compliant shipping files.

  • Returns and Rejected Stock:

    • Oversee returns or destruction of rejected stock.

    • Apply for duty refunds and arrange debit notes to recover costs.

  • Ad-hoc Tasks:

    • Assist with courier coordination and dispatch of local/international parcels.

    • Manage customs entries for sample shipments.

    • Ensure proper filing of import and local shipment records.


Minimum Requirements

Experience:

  • 5 years in airfreight and seafreight imports.

  • Knowledge of forwarding, clearing, and customs compliance.

Qualifications:

  • Matric/Grade 12

  • Diploma/Degree in Logistics or Supply Chain
