Main Purpose of the Job:
The IT Intern will provide timely and effective technical support to users, including performing desktop software and hardware installations, maintaining data centre equipment, troubleshooting problems (remotely or in person), assisting end-users, and managing a spare parts inventory to ensure uninterrupted IT services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Incident Management:

  • Respond to user issues telephonically.
  • Log incidents, complete checklists, and conduct diagnostics for prompt resolution.
  • Monitor incident severity and escalate issues as needed.
  • Complete incident priority reports for shift handover meetings.

Stabilized Data Centre Environment:

  • Detect and respond to technical problems.
  • Suggest improvements based on service statistics.
  • Maintain computer services and equipment in line with best practices.
  • Recommend computer products or equipment to improve productivity.
  • Maintain a spare parts inventory for repair work.

User Engagement:

  • Answer calls promptly and capture user information accurately.
  • Assess issue severity (high, medium, low).
  • Provide desktop support using diagnostics.
  • Action or escalate complaints, disputes, and suggestions per SOP.
  • Coach end-users in software usage.

Desktop Installations:

  • Prepare for and install required hardware and software.
  • Update SOPs and communicate regarding resources.

Vendor Engagement:

  • Liaise with vendors for parts, repairs, and services.
  • Schedule logistics and escalate issues when needed.
  • Attend vendor management meetings if required.
  • Complete orders for approval after work completion.

Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Matric or equivalent.
  • Diploma in IT or equivalent NQF Level 6 in IT.
  • MCSE, ITIL Foundation Certification is an advantage.
  • Must meet all requirements for a Gaming license.
  • No previous experience required.

Work Conditions and Special Requirements:

  • Must be able to work shifts and weekends.
  • May be required to work overtime as per operational needs.
