Purpose of the Job

The SHE Occupational Safety Practitioner will implement health and safety programmes, conduct inspections and risk assessments, and support the development of a safe workplace environment.

Key Responsibilities

Planning & Execution

  • Develop and execute shutdown and issue-based safety plans.

  • Ensure all activities align with the SHE game plan focus areas.

Risk Assessment & Management

  • Identify occupational safety hazards and risks.

  • Implement preventive and corrective safety controls.

  • Conduct workplace risk assessments (baseline, continuous, and issue-based).

  • Investigate incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and recommend corrective measures.

  • Conduct safety audits (e.g., logbook, lock-out, legal appointment, and insurance audits).

  • Participate in risk-based assurance audits with a focus on group and critical controls.

  • Monitor incident and injury trends, recommending mitigation strategies.

Safety Awareness & Communication

  • Develop and communicate safety awareness materials.

  • Lead toolbox talks, safety meetings, and stand-downs.

  • Coach operations staff on workplace safety best practices.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Grade 12 / Matric

  • National Diploma / B-Tech in Safety Management (Advantageous)

Experience

  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in safety management.

  • Operational safety and hazard control

  • Incident investigation and root-cause analysis

  • Safety audits and compliance monitoring

  • Effective communication and teamwork
