Job Summary:

The Shift Checker is responsible for ensuring that only high-quality products are loaded onto trucks for dispatch by adhering to all loading procedures, safety standards, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). This role involves working in a cold storage environment and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and operational protocols.


Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Grade 12 / Matric
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year working in a warehouse environment
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Attention to detail
    • Ability to work in a cold storage environment
    • Good communication skills
    • Ability to follow SOPs and safety protocols

Working Conditions:

  • The position requires working in a cold storage environment for extended periods.
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Loading & Inspection:

    • Inspect all pallets received from the holding room or chiller container to ensure they are in good condition, without damages, shortages, or extra cases.
    • Ensure that all trucks are thoroughly inspected, cleaned, and sanitized before loading begins.
    • Adhere to the FIFO (First In, First Out) standard during loading processes.
    • Complete all relevant check sheets daily to ensure accurate record-keeping.
  2. Safety & Compliance:

    • Follow all health and safety rules and company policies at all times.
    • Maintain compliance with loading SOPs, cold storage SOPs, and cold storage checklist systems.
    • Promptly report any damages to structures, forklifts, or reach trucks as soon as they are detected.
    • Report any unsafe hazards or actions immediately when identified.
  3. Equipment Handling:

    • Operate and handle Doc Levellers, Outbound Scales, and Scanners appropriately.
    • Ensure proper maintenance and care of all company property.
  4. Communication & Reporting:

    • Maintain good working relationships with all employees.
    • Report all misconduct, breaches of the company code of conduct, or non-compliance issues to the relevant authorities.
    • Follow and obey lawful instructions from seniors.
  5. General Duties:

    • Assist with stock takes and pack-out activities as required.
    • Work overtime when necessary to meet operational requirements.
    • Adhere to personal hygiene and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) requirements.
