About the Role:
Glencore is looking for a Shipping Clerk who will support commercial logistics and traffic functions by expediting shipping and ocean export of raw materials and commodities from Africa to customer destinations. The role involves converting manual shipping administrative systems to online processes to streamline the shipping operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish online shipping administration and interface with shipping service providers to improve operational efficiency.
- Convert manual systems to online processes to enhance logistics objectives.
- Manage export bookings by liaising with logistics management, traffic, and shipping lines.
- Prepare bills of lading and forward to the shipping line after collating relevant data.
- Ensure the correct application of freight rates and equipment allocation for packing.
- Ensure compliance with vessel screening procedures and pre-approvals.
- Coordinate with financial functions to ensure bank releases are in order.
- Collect required documentation, including bills of lading and warehouse receipts.
- Monitor vessel movement, departure, and arrival, providing updates to logistics management.
- Provide administrative support related to shipping documentation, storage, and payments.
- Maintain good relationships with service providers and resolve any issues promptly.
- Work closely with logistics management and traffic to resolve problems and convey decisions to stakeholders.
- Implement and manage online shipping processes and administration.
- Keep updated on developments in online shipping and maintain competency.
Qualifications:
- Relevant Diploma/Qualification required.
Work Experience:
- 3-5 years in shipping and freight forwarding, with experience in online shipping administrative functions.
Key Competencies:
- Proficient in online shipping administrative procedures.
- MS Office and computer literacy.
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Attention to detail and customer-oriented.
- Results-driven, self-motivated, and able to work under pressure.
- Strong multitasking and prioritization abilities.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
